PALS

Pediatric Advanced Life support is a methodical approach to the treatment of cardiac and respiratory arrest and respiratory emergency situations in children. The Academy of Pediatrics accepts and encourages the flexibility in the applications of algorithms when clinically appropriate. The chance of survival depends on the rapid response of the personnel who attend to the victim. The most important goal of PALS is the resuscitation of the heart and brain activity.

90% of pediatric cases are respiratory related. In this course, we will cover both respiratory and cardiac emergencies involving children. We will also cover signs and symptoms of compensated and decompensated shock.

When sudden death usually appears in children, the rhythm is usually ventricular fibrillation. Defibrillation is still the recommended treatment for this. With the advent of Pediatric AED’s successful resuscitation had dramatically improved.
